What is Botox?

The word “Botox” stands for “Botulinum toxin”. It is a naturally-occurring toxin derived from a bacterium that causes muscle paralysis (ever heard of botulism? This is why we don’t feed young infants honey!) It was discovered in the late 1800s that this toxin, when used correctly, could target certain muscles to result in a safe, temporary paralysis which allows the wrinkles caused by those muscles to be minimized. There are multiple companies today that sell Botulinum toxin to be used cosmetically, and each company has their own product.

At Being Well, LLC, we utilize two specific products:

  • BOTOX® Cosmetic from the company Allergan Aesthetics

  • XEOMIN® Cosmetic from the company Merz Aesthetics

Please click on the product name above to be taken to their respective websites for further information.

What do you charge for service?

At Being Well, LLC, we believe in full transparency regarding our services and prices to make this personal (and sometimes nerve-wrecking!) experience as smooth as it can be (no pun intended…). Below you will find the prices for our service:

  • BOTOX® Cosmetic is $12 per unit*

  • XEOMIN® Cosmetic is $10 per unit*

*Please note that there is a 3.5% transaction fee additional to the cost listed above if paying by credit card. Final price will be discussed before payment and before procedure.

Which services do you provide?

We can treat the forehead, between the eyes (“elevens”), crow’s feet, hooded eyes, frowning muscles, chin, and even the neck! Ask about the full list of treatments we provide!

How long does Botox last?

Please remember that Botox is not permanent. Treatment usually lasts for 2-4 months, but this depends on the quantity provided, how much you use your face muscles, your gender, and other factors. You should not be getting Botox more frequently than every three months as this can also cause Botox resistance in which your muscles will no longer respond to the treatment as before or they will become weak and thin.

Is Botox for me?

Botox is an option for a lot of men and women, but it certainly is not for everyone. Here are some people for which it is not appropriate:

  • Do not get Botox if you are 18 or younger

  • If you have uncontrolled chronic medical conditions, such as lupus or diabetes

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding

  • If you are a chronic smoker

  • If you have any bleeding or clotting disorders

  • If you have muscle disorders/weakness

What is the procedure like?

Your initial visit will consist of a virtual consultation in which you and the provider will discuss your past medical history, any previous Botox/cosmetic procedures, medications, etc. The provider will make recommendations and discuss cost of procedure. You will then schedule a procedure day and receive a set of forms electronically that will need to be completed prior to your procedure.

The procedure itself takes between 30 minutes to 1 hour and is done in an office setting. Patients are asked to come without makeup, but we do have makeup removers and will clean your face before sterilizing and injecting. Once you are done, we ask that you refrain from touching/massaging your face, exercising, laying down, or hanging upside down for at least four hours. The full effect of the medication will take days to weeks to notice, so you will not notice anything different the day of the procedure. You may leave with some redness, puffiness, and slight facial tenderness and may even notice bruising that will heal on its own, particularly around the eyes. This will all be discussed in much greater detail during the initial consultation and the visit.

How young should I start Botox?

It is generally recommended to start Botox in your 20s or 30s and not sooner as this is when your skin regeneration and collagen production starts to slow down. Starting Botox in your 20s is recommended if you want to prevent future wrinkles. However please take into account that having Botox done multiple times per year starting in your 20s could lead to thinner, weaker muscles and Botox resistance with chronic use- not to mention, it is expensive! On the flip side, if you start Botox once you already have deep set wrinkles, the treatment may not be as effective to remove or diminish these wrinkles. Ultimately, if and when you start depends on a number of personal factors that involve budget, long term goals, values, and skin quality to name a few.

What is your philosophy regarding Botox?

Each person is unique, and we believe in having a conversation regarding treatment that is tailored to each individual’s specific wants and needs. We strive to help women and men look youthful while maintaining a natural appearance. WE AT BEING WELL, LLC BELIEVE THAT NO ONE REALLY “NEEDS” BOTOX AND THAT YOU CAN LOOK BEAUTIFUL REGARDLESS OF YOUR DECISION TO START BOTOX! However, if you choose to try Botox, we hope you will choose us to guide you through this journey.
